This article is based on an investigation which we have been conducting on the meaning of conditionality in the earliest Arab grammatical theory and on how that meaning is reflected in syntax.1 Our investigation started by analysing how earliest Arab grammatical theory2 and European grammars3 treat conditional systems of the Arabic language.
