Reap the benefits of a well-weeded collection! This session discusses weeding techniques, collection management policies, and how to motivate reluctant weeders—all with sense of humor and encouragement from the pair behind the blog "Awful Library Books." Participants will find joy in a shelf list that reflects a clean, relevant, and current collection! This archived webinar was originally presented August 27, 2014. Sold as an on-demand webinar until November 4, 2015. Running time: 59 minutes. Learning Outcomes: At the conclusion of this on-demand webinar, participants will: Identify their own and others’ contributions to the collection life cycle in their library; Value and defend weeding as essential to collection quality; Be able to articulate how their library’s collection helps achieve their library’s mission; and Know how to create a collection management plan for their organization. Instructors: Holly Hibner is the adult services coordinator at the Plymouth District (Mich.) Library. She has a mild obsession with weeding (ok, maybe not so mild) and can usually be found in the stacks taking inventory. She also loves all things techie and the challenge of a good reference question. Holly is the co-author (with Mary Kelly) of the popular blog “Awful Library Books,” and the book Making a Collection Count: A Holistic Approach to Library Collection Management. Mary Kelly is the youth services librarian at the Lyon Township (Mich.) Public Library. She is passionate about collection quality and inspiring young minds through Toddler Disco. She can be found digging through the stacks searching for that odd title or hunched over the computer looking at spreadsheets. Mary is the co-author (with Holly Hibner) of the popular blog “Awful Library Books,” and the book Making a Collection Count: A Holistic Approach to Library Collection Management. |
