dc.description This work investigates the use of frequency domain structural synthesis and an expert system rule based design methodology for automating the design of the submarine machinery cradle. The expert system provides 'intelligent' automated executive control of the design process. Frequency domain structural synthesis provides the means to rapidly alter the structural configuration of the cradle design and calculate dynamic response. The goal is the minimization of structural dynamic transmissibility.
